Hi everyone! I have been lusting after Stitch Fix for quite some time, so I finally decided to go ahead and schedule my first fix. As a plus size lady, I was curious about their options. I also wanted to try a couple pieces I may not normally try otherwise, and familiarize myself with other brands than what I am used to. I was also just curious to see what they’d select for me.
This post is not sponsored by nor affiliated with Stitch Fix. I purchased these items with my own money.
What I Got in my First Stitch Fix | Plus Size
In case you don’t know, here’s a brief rundown of how it works. Stitch Fix is a styling service where you are sent a box of 5 items to try on at home. The items are selected for you by a personal stylist after you’ve filled out a style profile, where you fill in your clothing size, the types of clothes you tend to wear, your preferred colors, etc. They carry sizes 0-24 / XS-3X. There is a 20 USD styling fee that is credited towards any items you want to purchase.
Currently, Stitch Fix is only available in the US. They do have a waitlist for people who live in the UK, as they do have plans to start shipping to the UK this year.
Now… time for the haul!
#1 – August Mist Colbi Knit Top in Burgundy
The first item is the August Mist Colbi Knit Top in a size 1X. It’s super cute! I probably won’t be keeping it though, just because it doesn’t fit quite how I like clothes to fit. It’s short on me, which is unfortunate side effect of being 5’7″ that I experience often.
Here’s how it looks on me (pardon the awkwardness… I took these pictures by myself). I really like the print, and the color is not something I have in my wardrobe, but I’m not sure how often I’d reach for it just because of the way it fits. It is a little bit short on me and is a little tight in the arms. I’d be concerned about it shrinking if I washed it… but at the same time, I do like it. I don’t think I’ll end up keeping this one just to save money since I don’t LOVE it.
#2 – August Mist Ottis Long Sleeve Knit Top in Black
The second item is the August Mist Ottis Long Sleeve Knit Top in a size 1X. I wasn’t as much of a fan of this one, just because it’s somewhat see-through and the material is soft but clingy… if that makes sense. I did love the texture of the garment though, and it is a versatile piece and could be styled a lot of different ways. I have A LOT of solid black stuff and I’m not sure I can justify adding another basic.
#3 – Andrew Marc Performance Leggings in Dark Green
The third piece I received was the Andrew Marc Performance Leggings in a size 2X. This is one of my favorite things I got! I have been looking for some comfortable, versatile exercise pants and I’m always hesitant about this kind of material because I don’t want it to be too tight, but these are extremely breathable and fit well. I love the lattice at the bottom of the pants, and I love that it’s on the back of the calf and not the sides, like so many other lattice patterns I see on activewear.
Here’s what they look like on! The color isn’t translating too well on camera but they are a gorgeous dark green.
#4 – Laila Jayde Molli Hooded Open Cardigan in Light Grey
The fourth item is the Laila Jayde Molli Hooded Open Cardigan in a size 1X. I was so excited when I pulled this out of the box because it fits my style PERFECTLY. I wear stuff like this all the time, and constantly find myself wishing I had longer cardigans. It’s a little bit thin, but I live in a warmer climate so that’s fine. Also, the color says light gray but it’s almost like… pink/gray.
It’s so long that I couldn’t really even photograph it well! It doesn’t translate on camera too well but there is a large slit up both sides. It isn’t quite long enough to be a duster, but it is long enough that it covers the rear. You know that that means… I CAN WEAR LEGGINGS WITH IT!
#5 – Berry Jewelry Bartley Filigree Collar in Silver
The fifth and final item is the Berry Jewelry Bartley Filigree Collar necklace. It’s gorgeous and I love how it.. cascades, if you will, but I just don’t wear necklaces enough to justify keeping this one for the price.
Let’s Talk Pricing….
I didn’t mention the prices of each individual item because those prices seem to only be available through the Stitch Fix service. I also couldn’t find most of the items on external websites anyway. However, I did want to include a section on pricing so you can get a rough idea of how it works.
For me to purchase all five of these items, it would cost me 232 USD. There is a 25% discount for getting all the items, which brings the total down to 174 USD. On top of that, you always get the 20 USD styling fee credited toward your purchase, so it would cost me 154 USD to get everything in the box, approximately 31 USD per item. The average price point of individual items cost 55 USD per their website. So if you’re looking to get the most bang for your buck, purchasing all the items together is the way to go.
Alternatively, if you are trying to get a good deal, you could only purchase one item and get your styling fee credited toward it. For example, if I only wanted to get the leggings, which cost 48 USD via Stitch Fix, I would pay 28 USD for them since I had already paid 20 USD. But you’ll probably fall in love with more than one item like I did.
Some Tips/Advice to Make the Most of Your Experience
There is an option to attach a note to your stylist, and I sent her a link to my fashion inspiration Pinterest board. I think that made a difference, because honestly she did a great job with my style and I’ve heard a lot of people saying their first fix was a little off… but mine was great!
You do NOT have to sign up for monthly subscriptions. I signed up to get mine every three months to save money, which is the least amount of time on their website, but you don’t absolutely have to do that either if you don’t want to. You can cancel your fix for the month if you so choose! If you want to get them all the time, you can even get them every 2-3 weeks if you like!
On your profile, you’ll periodically be asked to thumbs up or thumbs down items they show to you, which is a great way to help your stylist narrow down your personal style.
If you absolutely need to keep the items longer than 3 days (or don’t want to be charged additional for a little bit longer), you can manually extend your checkout date for up to two weeks on the website.
Stitch Fix also offers men’s and children’s clothing as well. Sizing for the men’s selection is XS-3XL, and the children’s sizes are 2T-14. I believe you get 8-12 items in a child’s fix!
I hope you enjoyed my Stitch Fix Plus Size haul! If you’re interested in trying it out for yourself, check it out right here! Also, let me know which item was your fave!
